The Illustrated Wolfman

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day

I would write a novel about this one except Ray Bradbury beat me to it.

Would you p-p-p-please sign my T-shirt?

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day.

From 1988.  One of the first Roger Rabbit T-shirts.  Autographed by Charlie Fleischer, the voice of Roger Rabbit.

I was in New York City for the movie premiere of Who Framed Roger Rabbit at Radio City Music Hall.  The next morning I went into Macy's as soon as the store opened.  They had an entire floor of Roger Rabbit merchandise.  I met Charlie Fleischer there.  We both checked out the goods.

I bought this T-shirt and asked Charlie to autograph it for me.  Unless Charlie got up at the crack of dawn and signed something for the milkman, this is the first Roger Rabbit item he autographed after the movie came out.

Loud shout out here.  Charlie is a quirky and brilliant artist.  He was, is, and always will be my ideal representation of how Roger talks.

I'll Have What The Rabbit's Having!

The Roger Rabbit Cocktail!

Vodka, meyer lemon, and carrot ginger beer.  Goes for 12 simoleons at Alta CA! The hottest new restaurant in San Francisco.  They obvious know what's hoppening :)

Thanks to my special on-the-scene correspondent Katie Heg for ferreting this out.

Very jazzy.

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day.

The Jazz Cruise, 2014.

10 days of very jazzy sailing.  Live music in six on-board venues from noon until 1 a.m.  I was a very tired puppy.  Musicians included Arturo Sandoval, The Manhattan Transfer, John Pizzarelli, Ann Hampton Calloway, Shelly Berg, and at least fifty more.

On the ship I worked out and did yoga every day with a number of jazz musicians. One of them was multiple Grammy winning bass guitarist Marcus Miller.  When I told him I thought jazz musicians worked out by hanging out in smoky clubs and drinking lots of booze, he told me "That's old school, man.  You can't do that in our business anymore. The competition's too great."  Guess what.  You can't do that in my business either.

My yoga buddy and future mouse Marcus.
In my next animated movie, expect to see a small mouse, Marcus Mouse.  He'll be a hip jazz musician.  He wears a tiny black pork pie hat (Marcus Miller's trademark! I need me one of those!!!) and plays a talking bass guitar.  When he plays the high notes, the guitar giggles.  Heh heh heh heh.  When he plays the low notes, the guitar moans.  Ohhhhh, nooooo, whatcha going to me, man.  It will come off as scat singing.

I'm giving Marcus the franchise to sell teeny tiny pork pie hats on eBay.

Who's Your Uncle?

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day.

Of all my weird and wonderful Tees, this is the one that gets the most attention.  People  stop me on the street to ask me "What's Uncle Pete's?" Most think it's a bar.  Some say restaurant.  The answer is neither.  Uncle Pete's is an incredible shop on Charles Street in Boston, about a block away from the Charles River and the Esplanade.

Uncle Pete's features an incredible collection of stylish and reasonable priced clothing.  All personally selected by Peter whose young niece could not pronounce his name so she called him Uncle Pete.

And thus are legends born.

I Heart China!

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day.

My  souvenir T-shirt from my recent trip to China.

I bought it because i liked the design.  I had no idea what it said.  Always a mistake.  With T-shirts, but even more with tattoos.

When I got back,  a friend who spoke Chinese, translated it for me.  The red symbol means China.  The large symbol in the center means love.  So this is basically a really cool foreign version of I Heart (fill in name here.)

I've paired this Tee with a vintage Red Army cap.

Loving those baby back ribs!

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day.

Wolf's Bar-b-q.

Hey, what can I say.  Wolf's are carnivores.  We love snacking down on baby back ribs.  Especially when they come slathered with the Wolfman's secret Toon sauce.

Next time you're in Evansville Indiana, stop by and see what all the howling's about.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Wolfman's T-shirt of the Day.

From one of my favorite all-time TV shows, Friday Night Lights.  Matt Saracen's Number 7 Dillon Panthers shirt.

I took a quiz on the Internet recently that determined which Friday Night Lights character you were.  I really wanted Tim Riggins.  Hard living, beer drinking, ladies man.  Instead I got sensitive, artistic, friendly Matt Saracen. Truth be told, the quiz got it right.

Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose!.

The Jessica Rabbit Chronicles.

The Beginning.

I grew up in a small town in Illinois where the boys outnumbered the girls by 35 to 1.  Good luck getting a date if you’re president of the chess club.

With no real girls to lust after, my dream girls where all movie stars.  I based Jessica Rabbit on several of the cinematic sex symbols of my youth.  Red heads Esther Williams, Susan Hayward, and Rita Hayworth.  And the fabulous cartoon red head Red Hot Riding Hood created by legendary animator Tex Avery.

Red Hot first appeared in 1943 in an MGM cartoon titled, what else but, Red Hot Riding Hood.

You can see why a love-starved country boy fell for Red Hot hard.

Check out her eternally horny pursuer, The Wolf, ogling Red Hot from his table.  Resemble any similarly named writer you know?  I’ll talk more about Wolfs later as The Jessica Rabbit Chronicles continue.

Putting Looney In The Toons

Something new for all you Jessica Rabbit fans out there. Starting today, I'm going to show you some of the cartoon and comic book images that provided me with the inspiration for the hottest redhead in Toontown.

And no, this picture isn't Jessica.  This is legendary animator Tex Avery's creation Red Hot Riding Hood.  You'll be hearing a lot more about Red Hot in the days to come, so stay tooned.

Thanks to my roving correspondent Rich Custard for snapping this great candid of Jessica and Roger whooping it up at Disneyland.

Roger certainly does fill out those mouse ears nicely.  And Jessica....well, let's just say she's pretty filling, too.

Who Cut Roger Rabbit?

The infamous deleted "pigs head" scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?  Despite what the reviewer says, the scene was cut not because it was horrifying, but rather because the movie was running long.  Nobody knew at the outset if this film would appeal to adults, children, or both. Disney/Spielberg wanted to keep the movie's length to around 90 minutes. That being the typical length for a children's movie.  So many good scenes, including this one, got cut.
